Tommi’s blog: 2D barcodes pointing directly to application downloads
Good idea, I had seen it somewhere I think but do not remember where (I thought it was on GetJar but apparently not and I could not find it). Here is a two inputs on my side.
1) Not sure that going directly to the download process is the right way to go. An intermediate page that gives some information to the end user like download size and version might be safer. User might feel a bit more secure as soon as it knows how big is the file he is going to download (and charge for, as long as we do not have true flat rate).
2) Why generating one barcode per device model ? (ie. Share online per N95, Share online per N73,… ) the whole logic should be hidden to the user and put on the server side. The correct version of the software to be downloaded should be determined on the server (thanks to User-agent detection), if it exists.
Schrep’s blog: Mozilla and Mobile, another start from the Mozilla Foundation for building a mobile web browser. Wonder what is the status of Minimo.
btw… how would you define the mobile web ? (question asked on LinkedIn)
Just got the latest Swisscom newsletter…
International communication: We’ve dropped our price in Europe, geez… it is about time that mobile becomes really mobile and does not stop at the border. What about true flat rate for datas ? and dropping the price of the SMS/MMS ?
And now you can open a blog on Swisscom-mobile, here is mine – a test. I would say, once again, that it is about time, when will they innovate, they have all the infrastructure, in the best position to bring interesting services to the user… but no. Oh and by the way, opening a blog on Swisscom Mobile is free but here is a list of price just in case, and of course do not try to browse your blog from your mobile, the mobile web is so far away… for them!
Second W2 stamm was held yesterday at Cisco. I am glad it went fairly well with good presentations and some very interesting networking. There was even a quick Telepresence demo at the end but first Joanna, my colleague, introduced Cisco’s involvement into Second Life. By the way here are the SLurl to Cisco’s island and a link to the official Cisco’s Virtual World blog which also talk about Second Life of course.
In the second presentation, Stephane Cheikh talked about his experience at SITA on how to implement a customized corporate RSS reader with live example and he shared his lessons learned.
Third presentation was done by Matthias Lüfkens who introduced the World Economic Forum on Facebook.
Photos and videos will be published soon. Next stamm is in Zürich at Cablecom Headquarters. Programm is known you just need to subscribe to join the party!

The Times in Johannesburg has launched the TimesCode which is basically slightly modified QR Code to include the label “TimeCodes”. Basically a marketing thing since those code are readable by any QR Code reader. Via The Pondering Primate

UPDATE: I apparently ran into a very specific problem (read bug) that Zong team has fixed in no time. See thread of comments. Good job, I go on with my testings and come back here for some more feedbacks.
I have tested Zong for one of the blog I am running and I ran into a very unpleasant experience. Zong is a SMS gateway (what is Zong ?) provided by Echovox (based in Geneva) that lets you create your own mobile service for your blog. One of them is an alert system based on the RSS feed (called Z-feed) which seems to be a very good idea (we had worked out something similar at Kaywa for our own blogs). Continue reading
I like the format of this blog (artefact.ch). It looks a bit like Twitter (short posts in a “river of news” format) but it is a blog. I might even “steal” the idea for the quotation :-)
Often I’d like to publish quickly something, might be a sentence or a link, and I do not do it because I get stuck to the “Title” or “Category” fields within my interface (well categories here are a mess and I am going to take them out now that WordPress 2.3 supports tags). This is probably what Twitter is suppose to do but I am still having a hard time to use it.
I guess what I am trying to say here is that as soon I have some time I will work on a bit on the layout here… :-)
UPDATE: Just found out about soup.io, the easiest way ever to publish, collect, and share what you’re creating, thinking about, or discovering online.
