Twitter = aggregation for the masses

I think I have been following RSS almost from day 1 (almost). I have been using a feed aggregator almost since Dave Winner – the “inventor” – and his company Radio Userland started to evangelize feeds and more specifically RSS feed (as oppose to Atom format which is a bit more complicated to deploy but expose more feature).

I have always wondered how this invention will actually propagate in the masses. The RSS icon is not so user friendly and still does not talk much to my mom, adding a feed to an aggregator is not so obvious, real feed aggregator (like Google’s reader) remains very geeky… somehow with Netvibes, My Yahoo and alike we reach a state where it can be use by slightly bigger population than just the nerds but in my opinion it is still not very satisfying. That’s where Twitter becomes REALLY powerful. From a "share my status and what I am doing" tool they reach the state of being the aggregator of the masses. Everyone shares its links on his/her Twitter channel. Thanks to the API, big medias publish links to their online content as soon as it’s published, blog plateform let you use plugin that will publish any update from your blog on your Twitter channel, not to mention all other tools build up on top of the API that lets you share picture, video, status, and links… ie. Twitter has become the aggregator for the masses.

Café de la collégiale

Partager une bonne adresse c’est prendre le risque que l’endroit perde de son charme en gagant en popularité… je tente ma chance, voici une bonne adresse à Neuchâtel avec une terrasse: Le Café de la Collégiale. Perché en haut des escaliers qui mène à la collégiale, le café propose une petite terrasse avec une vue imprenable sur la ville, une carte rafraîchissante,…. idéal pour un apéro les jours ensoleillés… et pour les autres jours la salle intérieure n’est pas en reste et vaut le coup d’oeil!

Une application iPhone pour Paléo

Paléo pour ton iPhonePaléo propose une application iPhone… l’idée est sympathique bien que pas original (et surtout l’année passée ce n’était pas réservé aux possesseurs d’un iPhone). Rien de remarquable dans la réalisation… la présentation du programme ne tire pas vraiment avantage des possibilités graphiques de l’iPhone, les “Infos Trafics”, les transports et les plans semblent être présentés de manière très statique comme si elles étaient sorties “as is” d’un document PDF. Tant qu’à développer une application autant en tirer avantage et fournir des services qui ne seraient pas possible via une web app, comme un service de géolocalisation sur la carte, par exemple…
Pour moi c’est le parfait exemple d’un service où le développement d’une “application” ne se justifie pas… une “web app” aurait très bien fait l’affaire, et surtout cela aurait permi à d’autres mobiles (à peu près tous les smartphones existants) de profiter de ce service. Bien sûr c’est moins sexy que de pouvoir dire “disponible via l’AppStore” ;-)

La Famille21 passe au CPL

famille21Allez hop, un blog sympa: Famille21, c’est le blog d’une famille, Madame21, Monsieur21 et Bébé21 qui partagent leurs démarches entreprisent au quotidien pour améliorer leur manière de vivre en consommant mieux sans renoncer à leur confort.

Une succession d’initiatives auxquelles j’ai peut-être pensé à un moment ou à un autre mais qui ne sont jamais, en ce qui me concerne, arrivées en phase de réalisation. Le dernier en date est un bon exemple, le passage au CPL (“Courant porteurs en ligne”). J’ai le Wifi à la maison, et je ne l’ai pas installé sans me poser la question des conséquences de toutes ces ondes dans l’appartement (bon en même temps on habite à côté d’une voie de chemin de fer, “à côté” genre, le train passe dans la cuisine) pourtant je n’ai jamais cherché une alternative, la Famille 21 l’a fait et a testé pour vous, et avec succès, le CPL.

Poken vs. 2d barcode

I went to two conferences in the last month, and both tried to implement a tool to “replace” the business card (or increase the social interaction depending on how you want to see it).

Technoark used 2D barcode… while it was not, to my knowledge, really implemented (I think the barcode on the badge was just there for “access control”), it is quite easy to push further and think that the by scanning the barcode with my mobile phone I could access an online mobile profile of the person I am talking with and save it for later use.

  1. enfin un domaine où Microsoft n’a pas le monopole;
  2. un écran qui en dit long sur la situation de l’exploitation.

(remarquez qu’on le doit peut-être justement à M$, ce qui invaliderait le premier point!)
