As mobile device gains in cpu and memory mobile browser gets more powerful and a normal web page viewable on mobile device. With some smart browsers or transcoding service a normal web page can even be somehow formatted to fit mobile device.

Three times in a short time span I have been asked why do we still develop a mobile version of our blogs since there will be a time where anyway any web page will be readable on a mobile device.

To those I just give this answer (one amongst a few):
More than 15 years the World Wide Web exists and we still have to handle server side the various browsers. There are only 3 or 4 of them out there while there are over 4000 (growing every day) mobile devices!

Cette association a pour but de fédérer l’i-mode ™ indépendant (Web i-mode). Cela englobe tous les créateurs de services i-mode ™ qui ne sont pas forcément présents sur le portail officiel, mais dont le trafic est très important et ne cesse d’augmenter de jours en jours.

Toute initiative visant à promouvoir l’internet mobile indépendant se doit d’être soutenue… donc acte!

Discussion in the metro yesterday evening between two teenagers (roughly translated since it was in Paris :-):

• How much for 1 ?
• 50 cents
• Come on!! how much ?
• Seriously no less than 50 cents.
• How much does it cost you ?
• Duno… 10, maybe 15 cents.
• And yet you want to sell it 50 cents to me ? your friend ?
• Yes! If you want to send a SMS from my phone it is going to cost you 50 cents.
• …

Ok I shortened it a bit. All this was about trading a SMS. I thought it was sort of a joke but I quickly realised it could not have been more serious. During that time their friend was entertaining the train with music played on his PSP.

Ok I made a new test of Merkitys-Meaning and published a new picture on Flickr (let me introduce you my desktop, my PSP and my tiny Fujitsu laptop).
Here are a few screenshots of this application.

First you need to teach a bit the application about your location (well that’s the least you can do but some services doing that automatically would be nice and it is a must for wide adoption)

Location per cell (both place name and city name)

After taking the picture the “context” panel open and you can add title and tags to the picture.

Then you validate your choice and the picture is automatically added in the queue (you can change that in the settings) and is upload in the background.

This is just a settings panel…
