Lift07 soon there, 200 seats remaining
200 seats remaining (looks like I was number 310 ;-) I attended Lift06 and it was definitely worth the very few bucks!
Programm
Speakers
Participants
You can also check out my profile. I like that for a conference, tied it to a QR Code displays on your conference badge and you have the ultimate networking tool. Talk with someone, scan his badge and check out his mobile profile on your device (other feature includes downloading vcard, adding him to your adresse book and much more)…
Mobile profile ? how can that look ?
Just a sample of a private beta thing, more on that soon…
Lift07 feed on Feed2Mobile (to read the latest conference news on your mobile)
BTW: looks like I was too late when subscribing to attend the social event (a fondue) on Thursday evening… if you read this and you are not attending the event feel free to contact me, I am up for a diner somewhere (does not have to be a fondue ;-)
Note that this post was categorized under “swiss” only because it happens in Geneva, the event and the participants/speakers come from everywhere!
mobileOK Basic Tests 1.0
Something else that was released by the W3C a few days before Christmas: mobileOK Basic Tests 1.0.
A set of machine verifiable (basic) tests to determine if a web page is suitable for mobile device. Somehow those tests should be performed everytime one access a web page from its mobile, and since it happens all the time with the KAYWA reader, this is something we could/should quickly integrate on our intermediary page.
I am fed up of having my mobile crashing because of big and unreadable web page!

Barcode reader for your webcam
QuickMark has released a few days before Christmas a piece of software that lets you decode QR Code with your webcam! The soft is available in the download section
Was about time for me to set up my old webcam (I used it back when I lived in Boston to chat with friends and family) on my computer and here I am with my girlfriend’s Qtek* showing off Feed2Mobile on a mobile device.
Note that this post is the first one of the 2D Code category…
* yeah I also tried the QuickMark reader on the Qtek but does not seem to work unfortunately…
Reflex Magazine
Newcomer in the swiss press Reflex, a joint effort from Largeur.com and the EPFL, is all about technology, science and innovation! Did not have the time yet to go through but it is promising.
English version is also available!
Endoxon acquired by Google!
Note that Endoxon is providing mapping technology to Local.ch
What about UAProf ?
The mobile web is, at least, getting the attraction it deserves to (and that I have been waiting forever :-). One of the downside is that newcomers jump in the discussion and ask the same question that have been discussed forever…
Most of us are aware of the fact that there are several limitations of WURFL. […] A possible solution for aforementioned problems could be UAProf. (#)
Compilation of answers from Luca (WURFL) and Barbara:
- UAProf is frequently wrong (which is quite surprising since infos are provided by the manufacturer);
- UAProf data is not as standard as it should;
- UAProf data is extremely limited, as it should be to keep overhead down;
- WURFL does import UAProf data whenever a new device is kind enough to leave an UAProf URL;
For more informations:
The list of available UAProf files for Nokia devices can be found there and UAProf files can be accessed at http://nds1.nds.nokia.com/uaprof/<filename>.
The power of community
Two things that strucked me last week about BleuBlog, the blog plateform KAYWA is running for Edipresse/Le Matin Bleu
1) Over 100’000 comments in 9 months….
2) When a community like BleuBlog organises by itself without external help a Christmas gathering like the one the “BleuBlogueurs” are setting up next Thursday it must means something… no ?
Barcode Manifesto
Excellent piece of writing from Tommi over on S60 application blog: 2D Barcode Manifesto. The discussion that follows is also very interesting (as much as the post itself) with Dennis from ShotCode ans Stan from Semapedia around the content of the codes… shortcode vs. url
I believe there is a market and an use for both… shortcode has some advantages over url! Size is one advanatge and then there is all the services you can provide on top of it.
Yes…
