Volé en 2005

“Volé en 2005″ i.e. “Stolen in 2005″, that’s the sentence written under an ashtray of one of the very famous hotel in France. Nice way to build a customer relationship.

ha ha–I saw something similar at the Widder Hotel in Zurich. The bottom of the ashtray said something like “Stolen from the Widder Hotel” around the hotel logo. I think it’s just a tongue-in-cheek observation that things will inevitably ‘walk away’ from the hotel. This playfulness also increases the desirability of the ’souvenir’ and the ‘coolness factor’ of the hotel, so in a way it encourages people to just take the ashtray (free advertising, perhaps?). Unfortunately I didn’t have a camera with me to snap a picture. (and no, I didn’t steal one-don’t smoke, so I have no use for it…)
