Despite the comments on the video that criticized the "animated" part in the tattoo, I very much like the idea but I would challenge one thing: the choice of a proprietary format which in any use case can be blamed but even more in the case of a non-erasable, non-modifiable tattoo. What if the company running the code is out-of-business, or if they decide to charge for every scan/use of the code? what about all the people that could potentially try this tattoo but can not because their mobile phone is not loaded with the appropriate reader? I understand the size of the tattoo is a constraint but there might be other solution. Personally I would use an URL that I own (and not one of this URL shortener) and would implement it in a way that I can dynamically change the landing page/video. Why not adapting the video to my mood! (Via 2d-code)

Generally speaking I found QR Code (or barcode in general but hopefully mainly QR Codes) to become much more ubiquitous… spotted a few of them on ads (or on TV) lately…

So ?

1. Google is also affected by the economic situation. Even “monster” like Google has to refocus when economic downturn… (note that they also laid off 100 recruiters)
2. If you were using one of those services you better prepare to move to another one, and hopefully you can export your datas in a nice and re-usable way. Remeber Richard Stallman warned us about Cloud Computing, this is a perfect example… a service is discontinue and you are stuck! In this case it happens with a notice beforehand but what if the service is shut down directly ?

Remove the parameter “&warned=1″ and you will get this screen before accessing the video. So right. They get it so right… (Google get it right often, too often,… it is actually getting tiresome :-)

This was done quite easily because the code of the player can be automatically be build with the permalink of the video. Smart.

I tried to do the same then with Dailymotion, unfortunately they seem to not have think about that one as the URL use as a permalink for the video is not the same as the one to insert in the player code. Too bad!

I have not investigated all video system (I think Kewego should be allright) but if I was about to create some sort of Twitter-like video thingy, it is something I would probably like to think about… :-)

What about the comments ?
Well good question… so while I was at it I just did the same for the comments (see example), so that it is very easy to share video through the comments, and we are basically one step away for having a discussion through video. Quite easy to shoot its reaction to a post on YouTube, and just post the link as a comment! It will automatically transform the link into the YouTube player and make the video playable in the flow of the discussion.
